This solo, site-specific installation was presented by Doppler Projects on September 23, 2017 on the corner of Gresham and Glenwood Avenue as part of the East Atlanta Strut festival.

“For our third year exhibiting at the East Atlanta Strut we wanted to shed the white walls of a gallery and really engage with the practical challenges of showing contemporary art in a festival setting. The artist we chose needed to have the flexibility to work with the challenges of architecture and the unpredictability of installing work outdoors with minimal install time. We were interested in Savonna's work tor its capacity to respond and transform spaces into aesthetic, sensual, and textured experiences. Engaging with Savonna's textile work was a way for us to bring materials typically encountered indoors to an outside space and show handi-craft as an expansive, viable, and relevant medium.” -- Doppler Projects

Statement

Weaving allows me to make sense of the things in my lie that I cannot control: the random, unexpected moments and life-altering events. I integrate seemingly disparate textile material and create a semblance of order amongst a chaotic bombardment of raw and unraveling fibers. Trails of obsessively intricate stitching tend to the cuts and broken weaves. The loose threads and raw edges await the fastidious needle. My struggle to gather and care for it all creates an underlying tension stitched into the pieced-together fibers.
